The Ambassador of Italy in Brasilia, Francesco Azzarello signed yesterday the Agreement between the Government of the Italian Republic and the Government of the Republic of Suriname on the treatment of debt service. The Agreement, recently signed in Paramaribo by the Minister of Finance and Planning of Suriname, Kermechend Raghoebarsing, provides for the rescheduling of payments of the debt of the Republic of Suriname towards SACE, for a value of about 6.8 million euros.
The Republic of Suriname formally expressed its gratitude “for the valuable support received from the Government of the Italian Republic enabling Suriname to further continue its International Monetary Fund supported program”.
“The signing of the Agreement, after a long and complex negotiation – said Ambassador Azzarello – is a further demonstration of the excellent state of bilateral relations between Italy and Suriname, crowned, in recent times, by the intensification of institutional contacts and the strengthening of cooperation in many sectors”.
